Mega Drive shmup Gleylancer coming to modern consoles next week

Ratalaika Games has announced that retro shoot ’em up Gleylancer will be launching globally for PS4, Switch, and Xbox One on October 15, 2021.

Gleylancer’s only previous release in the west was via the Wii Virtual Console. With that service now defunct, it’s nice to see that there’ll be more ways to pick up the game outside of the original Japanese Mega Drive version.

Most of the game will remain the same for this re-release, only adding some new accessibility features. It’s also relatively cheap, priced at £5.99/€5.99/$6.99 on all platforms.

Gleylancer story overview via Ratalaika Games:

The story follows Lucia, a 16-year-old star fighter pilot in the Earth Federation. A war breaks out between humans and an unknown alien race in the year 2025. Lucia’s father, Ken, a high-ranking admiral in the Federation Navy, is captured after his ship is warped out of the combat zone with 4 alien modules which have the ability of teleportation. Lucia, heart-broken after hearing her father’s disappearance, decides to hijack the prototype fighter CSH-01-XA “GleyLancer” with the help of her friend Teim and go after her father.
