Netflix announces first live action One Piece cast members

Netflix has started to reveal some more details on its live action One Piece adaption, announcing the first castings of the upcoming series.

Iñaki Godoy will be playing One Piece protagonist Luffy, with Mackenyu as Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji. This gives us a rough idea of how much the series will cover as well — assuming that no more members of the Straw Hat Pirates are announced anyway.

Mackenyu is the only one of these announced cast members that has some experience with live action anime adaptions, having previously appeared in Rurouni Kenshin: The Final and Kaiji: Final Game.

One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda also shared a message regarding Netflix’s adaption, stating that “It’ll take a bit more time to get this show done, but we’ll continue to do our best to deliver a show that we’re confident will be enjoyed by everyone around the world!”
