Square Launch FFXIV App – Announce PS4 Version Details

Square Enix’s second shot at a fresh MMO launched just a few weeks back to avid consumers and, subsequently, massive server woes; a staple reason of claiming a game has pulled in more players than the creator’s ever expected. The issues have been forgotten and Square released some new information.

Yesterday saw Square Enix take to the stage of Sony’s Playstation Vita TV reveal to announce concrete plans regarding a third version of the Final Fantasy XIV release that would see the huge MMORPG grace the screens of future PlayStation 4 owners early next year with a beta test period starting in February.

Those who currently own the PlayStation 3 version of the title will be able to switch up to the PlayStation 4 version for free should they eventually muster up the courage — and cash — to pick up the pricey next-generation console.

Outside of the event, the company stealthily released the mobile FFXIV app ‘Final Fantasy XIV: Libra Eorzea‘ — with Libra being a staple spell of the titular series used to gather information. The app — though currently iOS only — will see a quick turnaround release to Android. Upon checking the iTunes page it’s clear the app is currently only available in smartphone format, and while said apps run perfectly on even tablet devices, the stretched pixels won’t do it justice.

The FFXIV app certainly would certainly make tracking down gearsets much easier

It’s worth noting that you Android users shouldn’t expect a native tablet version when it comes to getting your hands on the compendium app — that’s either further down the line, or not even a concern for the company that’s avoided high-resolution tablet/phone releases many times in the past.

The app itself in entirely free and offers a myriad of features to the user. Players can sign in with their account to view character info of themselves and their buddies across Linkshell, Free Company and Friend List logs and also read up on in-game quests, items stats and armor locations whether they’re connected to the internet or not.

It’s certainly a warm welcome to a player’s app collection; especially considering players still don’t have a firm grip on the information themselves. The FFXIV Wikia is incredibly sparse at the moment!

Spread the love!
