Yurukill features a unique mix of two very different gameplay styles, combining adventure game segments with bullet hell action.
Set in an amusement park, convicted criminal Sengoku Shunju must survive its various “attractions” in order to be pardoned for his supposed crimes. He’s paired up with Rina Azami, a victim of the crime Sengoku says he didn’t commit, who will act as an “Executioner” if he doesn’t manage to prove his innocence.
During your explorations, you’ll switch between solving puzzles in the real world and fighting against opponents in virtual reality. Sengoku must also contend with Rina, who has the power to kill him at any point.
It’s an odd game to explain, but the official website thankfully has a breakdown of the main gameplay mechanics. There are also character bios for each of the groups that are stuck within the amusement park and its mysterious host.
Physical Deluxe and Limited editions for Yurukill: The Calumniation Games are available to pre-order now via the NISA Europe store (the latter is a store exclusive).
