The original Actraiser was a unique mix of platforming and city building, with Renaissance adding in new features to both parts, plus entirely now mode.
On the platforming side, your repertoire of sword and magic attacks has been expanded. Meanwhile, the city building side now includes tower defence sections as you defend settlements from waves of monsters.
Presentation-wise, Actraiser Renaissance now features pre-rendered sprites, and a remastered soundtrack by original composer Yuzo Koshiro. While Renaissance’s new visuals might not be the most pleasing compared to the original Actraiser, Koshiro getting to work on more game soundtracks will always a good thing.
