Manga UP! gets much needed subscription option
Square Enix has added a new $4.99 monthly subscription option, titled Vault Pass, to its digital manga service Manga UP!
Previously, to read new chapters on Manga UP! you needed to make use of multiple different currencies: Free “UP”, XP (which was also free, but given out less frequently), and paid COIN. With Vault Pass, any chapters unlockable via UP can be viewed without any additional requirements.
Furthermore, many chapters that were originally only available via COIN can now be unlocked via free currency (meaning they’re also part of Vault Pass).
Releasing alongside Manga UP!’s Vault Pass is Black Butler, celebrating the upcoming release of the Black Butler: Public School Arc anime. In fact, the first 14 volumes that make up the events leading up to the Public School Arc will be available for free until April 17.
This is all a step in the right direction, with the reasonably priced subscription allowing people to skip the obtuse currency system for most series.
