First Oninaki Preview Has Appeared In Weekly Famitsu

During last week’s Nintendo Direct, one of the titles that stayed with me was the new Tokyo RPG Factory title, Oninaki. It struck us how familiar the title looked, whilst drifting into wonderfully new territory with the aesthetic and implied themes.

Reported by Gematsu this morning, the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu has revealed the first official Oninaki preview. In this feature, it was revealed that Chrono Trigger and Live A Live director and scenario writer Takashi Tokita is working on the game as its creative producer, with the scenario being handled by Hirotaka Inaba, who also did the scenarios for Tokyo RPG Factory’s previous titles I Am Setsuna and Lost Sphear. The logo was illustrated by Tomonori Kogawa. Tokyo RPG Factory’s Atsushi Hashimoto is the director, and Ryutaro Sasaki is the producer.

That’s pretty much a dream team, especially considering that I personally love I Am Setsuna and Chrono Trigger particularly. Also, it will apparently be an “intensely shocking title”, according to the feature, which has me plenty excited too. All I need now really is a set release date, I have faith that the battle systems and mechanics will be solid based on the previous history of the Tokyo RPG Factory titles.

What do you think of this Oninaki preview? Are you excited about the game? Will you be picking it up when it releases? Let us know in the comments, or on Twitter and Facebook, and check back for more coverage of JRPGs and other Japanese titles.

Oninaki is due out for PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC this summer. Development is currently 65 percent complete.

Spread the love!
