Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIII is returning West

After a 9 year hiatus outside of Japan, Koei Tecmo has announced that strategy game series Romance of the Three Kingdoms will be heading West with its 13th installment.

Launching on 8th July 2016 on PS4 and Steam, Romance of the Three Kingdoms is based on the novel of the same name and the game is celebrating its 30th anniversary. You play to unify 2nd century China as factions are battling for power as the current dynasty falls apart. Your actions can influence the outcome of certain events.

Aiming to be historically accurate, strategy fans will find a home here regardless of how well they know the history of China as you’re able to develop cities, build and break relationships with other people, and recruit people to train and impressive army. Diplomacy and personal relationships play a huge role in your success, so you’re encouraged to build relationships alongside cities and armies. You’re able to create your own character or play as one of 700 historical characters including Cao Cao, Liu Bei and Zhao Yun – it’s up to you whether you want to carve your own name into history or follow in the steps of someone else.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIII features two ways to play the game with campaign mode, which plays out like most strategy games and gives you the freedom to play as you want, and hero mode which directs the play more and acts as an in-depth tutorial, following historical events as another character before you’re off to create your own mark in history.

With such a long hiatus, I’m sure it’ll please many that the series is making its way West again. Perhaps Nobunaga’s Ambition proved to Koei Tecmo that these games have a home here, so let’s hope we see more of them.

Spread the love!
