Studio Ponoc’s Mary and the Witch’s Flower Trailer Released
Ex-Ghibli Producer Yoshiaki Nishimura’s Studio Ponoc has uploaded a trailer for its first animated film! The film is titled Mary and the Witch’s Flower, and is based on Mary Stewart’s 1971 children’s novel, The Little Broomstick.
The story is about a little girl named Mary finds a broomstick in the woods, which whisks her to the grounds of Endor College, a college run by witches. Once there, she discovers mutated animals from failed spells being kept in cages. Although she manages to free the animals, she is discovered by the evil head of the college and her colleague, who quickly pursue her in her escape!
Yoshiaki Nishimura will be producing the film, with Hiromasa Yonebayashi directing. The duo previously worked together on When Marnie Was There, but this is their first feature-film as Studio Ponoc.
The official website for Mary and the Witch’s Flower notes many other staff members previously affiliated with Ghibli, such as composer Takatsugu Muramatsu, are also involved in the production of the new film.
