Lost Ark launching February 2022

Amazon Games announced during The Game Awards 2021 that Lost Ark will launch for PC in the west on February 11, 2022.

Lost Ark is a free-to-play MMOARPG developed by Smilegate RPG, originally releasing in South Korea during 2018. Its gameplay is similar to titles like Diablo and Path of Exile, but with an even bigger focus on group content via dungeons and PvP, and a visual style that should be familiar to fans of Korean MMOs.

As with most other F2P releases, Amazon is offering a number of founders packs. Ranging from £13.20 to £87.99, these offer a variety of in-game bonuses including a pet and premium currency. All founders packs also allow for three days of early access ahead of the game’s full launch.

It’s an odd time for MMOs, with many either failing to attain a decently sized playerbase at launch, or falling out of favour over time — Amazon itself has already ran into this problem with New World earlier this year. It remains to be seen whether Lost Ark will be a success in the west, despite its popularity in South Korea.
