Switch successor to be revealed during Fiscal Year 2024

Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has revealed via a tweet that a successor to the Nintendo Switch will be revealed during the current fiscal year.

For those not used to this (admittedly confusing) system, Fiscal Year 2024 ends on April 5, 2025. This means that a Switch 2 — or whatever this new console ends up being called — reveal could still be a while away.

The tweet also confirmed that a new Nintendo Direct is planned for June 2024. While it wont contain any hardware info, the Direct will showcase games that are releasing during the second half of 2024.

This leaves nearly a year window for the announcement, and the actual release of the Switch successor wont happen until at least a few months after its reveal too.

At over nine years since the initial reveal of the Nintendo Switch and seven since its release, the console has certainly lived a long life. Assuming many of the initial Switch 2 offerings are cross compatible, it’ll likely keep going for even longer too.
