From Japan to the World Music Festival

Like any other country, Japan is home to a delightfully wide variety of music. Though I tend to cover a lot of the rock and pop side of things here, this weekend presents a great opportunity to try out a selection of acts from across the Japanese music spectrum. From Japan to the World is an online music festival airing the 13th and 14th of June on YouTube.

With eight shows being live streamed, From Japan to the World bills itself as the “first ever online Japanese music festival made for the world.” What really excites me about this event is the variety of acts they have gotten on board.

Catering to an international audience, performances start at 7pm in Tokyo (11am in the UK) on Saturday with a repeat of the show on Sunday at 5pm LA time (1am UK) over on YouTube.

From Japan to the World lineup

Kan Sano

From Japan to the World Performer Kan Sano

Kan Sano is keyboardist and producer who fuses jazz and classical music with house. He has been on the music scene for nearly a decade, bringing his unique sound to crowds at festivals, clubs, and concert halls across Japan.

Michael Kaneko

This singer and songwriter cut their teeth on commercials in Japan, performing jingles for Toyota as well as other companies. Since then, his first EP, Westbound, was released in 2017, and he is keen to break out into the West so he’s one to keep an eye on.

Akkogorilla

From Tokyo (or, as she likes to say, Planet Earth), Akkogorilla is a classic hip hop battler in a bright pink package and I love to see it. With five years on the scene, she combines serious spitting skill with just a hint of the pop tones that Japan is known for.

Rhyme So

This combo of producer Shinichi Osawa and DJ Rhyme are known for heavy beats and poetic delivery. They’re a fun combo to see and present themselves as true artists in every performance.

From Japan To The World Music Festival

Fans of Terrace House will recognise frontman Shohey Uemura, but this versatile funk collective brings a more modern take on classic R&B, jazz, and rock of the 70s and 80s.

Yayoi Daimon (ft. Kenta Ebara)

With a background in dance and a heavy influence from the hip hop and R&B of America, Yayoi Daimon is always on point with the sound and visuals of her performances.

Yuhei Miura

Specializing in a jazz and hip hop (jazz hop) blend, Yuhei Miura is coming off the release of their newest EP, Afternoon in Akagi, just a few days ago. This artist is made for a chill playlist and is a great companion for any time you’re working or studying.

Shingo Sekiguchi

Another jazz influenced artist, Shingo Sekiguchi is a beast on the guitar. Their unique sound has seen them perform with a variety of artists over the years.
