Odin Sphere Leifthrasir will be heading to Europe this June to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita as both a physical and a digital release. This is a complete HD remake of the original PS2 classic from Vanillaware, the team behind the hit side-scrolling action game Dragon’s Crown and Muramasa: The Demon Blade.
The Odin Sphere Leifthrasir: Gwendolyn Trailer nicely explains the story of the remake. Odin Sphere Leifthrasir is a 2D Odin Sphere Leifthrasir that draws heavily from Norse mythology and Wagnerian opera. The protagonist of the first story is the valkyrie Gwendolyn, the younger daughter of the Demon Lord Odin. You will get to play as 4 other protagonists in chapters that follow, forming an overarching chronological story. What is interesting about Odin Sphere is that each level is in 2D, but with the left and right edges joined so as to form a continuous circle. Given this and it’s level structure, Odin Sphere Leifthrasir is quite a unique title.
Alchemy and Cooking trailer shows off Leifthrasir’s complex systems. This includes creating magic potions to assist you in combat. For example Blaze creates a flame in front of you and another kind of potion can turn your enemies into frogs. You can use magic potions to overcome environmental obstacles like lava pits. But what is an alchemy system without cooking? You can prepare hearty meals with the ingredients that you can gather or purchase from a merchant. Or you can raise a chicken for a quick health restore. A bit brutal, but the choice is yours.
