Delightful new KonoSuba game coming soon, has title too long to fit in headline
Do you like the charming comedy fantasy anime series KonoSuba: God’s Blessing On This Wonderful World? Do you like titles that are even longer than that which KonoSuba already has? Do you like visual novels with cute girls in a variety of outfits? Then our pals at PQube and MAGES have an announcement we think you’ll rather like!
“KONOSUBA! – God’s Blessing On This Wonderful World! Love For These Clothes of Desire!” is the full title of an upcoming game that is on the way to Steam, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, and it features a brand new story in the beloved series, presented in visual novel-cum-time management sim form.
The concept of the game involves protagonist Kazuma and his definitely-not-harem stumbling across a mysterious Black Slab with the power to make magical outfits. There’s an issue, though: while these magical outfits are all super-cute and lovely and sexy and stuff, they also curse the wearer with some extremely intense desires. Your job, then, is to guide Kazuma and the KonoSuba girls through an adventure as they attempt to break the curse and uncover the truth of the Black Slab.
Gameplay involves more than just clicking through dialogue: you’ll set a weekly schedule for each character in order to earn funds, complete quests and gather resources. You can then, in turn, use your money and resources to create new outfits and dress up the cast of lovely KonoSuba ladies.
The structure of the game involves working on jobs and quests for three days of a week, resting and perhaps going on outings with the heroines on the fourth day of a week, and buying ingredients to create new clothes on the fifth. The game’s overall goal is to create various clothing items by set deadlines; failure to do so results in the party having to flee the town in the middle of the night and, presumably, a Game Over.
Examples of the outfits given in the promotional material include Megumin as a Lolita League Leader, Aqua as a prim and proper goddess (as opposed to her usual pantsless trash fire) and Darkness as a dominatrix. Plenty of potential for some quality fanservice there — particularly given the outfits have a tendency to change their wearer’s personalities, too!
As you progress through the game, you’ll have the opportunity to interact with seven of the heroines from the series, building (or depleting) your affection through dialogue choices. The game features both good and bad endings according to how you interacted with the heroines over the course of a playthrough, so there’s plenty of replay value along the way, particularly if you, like many people, find it difficult to pick just one KonoSuba waifu.
The various clothing types are attuned to the various heroines, and this will help boost your relationships with them. The game tracks your intimacy level with the various heroines via a coloured meter, starting at blue for low affection, proceeding through yellow for moderate affection and pink for high level affection that leads to good endings.
There’s a common route that constitutes the main story, and following this there are heroine-specific routes for any characters you’ve managed to get “out of the blue”, as it were. Getting a heroine to “yellow” will net you their normal ending, while “pink” will get you their best ending.
As usual for visual novels and VN-adjacent games, there’s a full gallery function that allows you to review CGs and events at your leisure, and there are rewards for collecting all of them. The original Japanese version featured figurines of nurse Aqua and cheerleader Megumin, with DLC available featuring the characters in these costumes; we don’t yet know if these will be available in the western version, but we’ll have to wait and see!
KONOSUBA! – God’s Blessing On This Wonderful World! Love For These Clothes of Desire! doesn’t have a firm release date for the west as yet, but it’s “coming soon” for Windows PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4. Keep an eye on PQube’s socials for the latest.
