Netflix reveal animated series Sonic Prime, set for 2022

We now have a name for the previously untitled Sonic animated series coming to Netflix. Now called Sonic Prime, it’ll be launching exclusively for the streaming service in 2022.

The existence of a new Sonic animated series was initially leaked last December, though the now deleted tweet didn’t share much about the project.

According to Netflix’s press release, Sonic Prime will be 24 episodes long, detailing the “journey of self-discovery and redemption” for Sega‘s classic mascot.

As mentioned in the initial leak, this is a joint production between Sega, WildBrain, and Man of Action Entertainment.

While this should be good news for Sonic fans, the Blue Blur himself hasn’t actually starred in a new mainline game for a few years now. There’s been a kart racer, a crossover with Mario for the Olympic Games that never happened, and multiple appearances in other franchises, but a fresh mainline game (that’s better than Sonic Forces) would be welcome in 2021.
