Netflix has announced a new anime series starring everyone’s favourite skyscraper-sized reptile beast. It’s titled Godzilla Singular Point, is directed by Atsushi Takahashi, and is currently slated to arrive in 2021.
Singular Point is the fourth anime Godzilla appearance on the streaming service in recent years, following the success of the films Planet of Monsters, City on the Edge of Battle and The Planet Eater. However, Netflix says the series won’t be connected to these, instead featuring a new cast and original plot.
Producing the series are studios Bones (My Hero Academia) and Orange (Beastars), working in partnership. Notable members of the creative team include animator Eiji Yamamori, who’s worked on Studio Ghibli films such as Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke, and Kazue Kato of Blue Exorcist. Japanese sci-fi author Toh Enjoe is writing and editing.
On Twitter, Netflix revealed some artwork, giving us a glimpse at the show’s enormous cast of characters. Even with so little information about the series, it’s hard not to pick favourites just from these expressive illustrations.
Myself, I like the guy in the red tie. Which ones do you think you’ll be rooting for, and who would you throw to the kaiju?
