Pokemon Sword and Shield Crown Tundra expansion releases October 22

The release date of the next Pokemon Sword and Shield expansion, The Crown Tundra, has been revealed, and the good news is you won’t have to wait long.

During today’s video update on the DLC, The Pokemon Company shared new information and gameplay footage, as well as a release date of October 22.

The expansion’s plot involves a character named Peony, who selects the player as an expedition leader and tasks them with exploring a mysterious wintry region: the titular Crown Tundra.

As well as the deer legendary Calyrex and the new Regis, every legendary Pokemon from previous games will be available to catch. They’ll be encountered in new Dynamax Adventures, a feature where four players can team up to explore gigantic Pokemon dens.

Finally, an extra challenge has been added in the Galarian Star Tournament, where players can team up with their favourite NPC trainers and do battle alongside them.

There was no teasing of future expansions, so time will tell whether any more major injections of Sword and Shield content are coming. However, as a last little bonus, special Pikachu have been added to the games – eight types in total – each wearing a different version of Ash Ketchum’s iconic cap.

You’ll need to keep an eye out for the passwords that will allow you to obtain them, since these will apparently be announced “in various places”. The first one is available now, via the use of the password P1KACHUGET.
